The Top 5 Things No One Tells You About Redoing Your Kitchen (But We Will)
Thinking about redoing your kitchen? We’re so excited for you — but let’s be real: kitchen renos come with a few surprises.
At CRW, we’re all about transparency (and lucky duck deals), so here are the top 5 things no one tells you about kitchen renovations — and how you can stay ahead of the game.
1.
You Don’t Have to Be Completely Without a Kitchen
Most people think they’ll be living off takeout for months — but there’s a trick:
Once your cabinets are installed, you can place a simple MDF board across part of the base cabinets to create a temporary countertop.
Boom — instant prep space while you wait for your real counters!
Bonus Tip:
You can even set up a mini kitchen on a dining table — line up a toaster oven, microwave, and hot plate and you’re back in business.
2.
Countertops Take Time (But You Can Plan for It)
After your countertops are laser measured, it usually takes about 10 days before installation.
That’s where the MDF board comes in handy — giving you space to cook and prep without missing a beat.
Bonus Tip:
If you’ve been meaning to visit family, take a weekend getaway, or squeeze in a little trip, this is the perfect time! Plan it right after your countertops get measured so you’re home less during that 10-day lull.
3.
Yes, You Can Still Cook!
No kitchen? No problem.
-
Set up a small standalone microwave (CRW often has them at a steal!)
-
Use a toaster oven — they’re magic for everything from toast to heating up your favorite frozen snacks or meals
-
Add a simple hot plate and you’re good to go
Trust us, you’ll still be whipping up your favorite recipes even mid-renovation.
4.
Which Comes First: Floors or Cabinets?
Ideally, you want to install new floors first — it gives a cleaner, more uniform look and avoids trapping old appliances.
BUT if you can’t, it’s not a deal-breaker. Just make sure flooring runs under the appliances and be prepared to possibly replace toe kicks (the trim under your cabinets) for a polished, finished look.
5.
Not Every Tiny Detail Has to Be Decided Day One
Start by locking in your cabinets, countertops, and appliances — the big stuff.
Then, let yourself enjoy the process! Hunt for the perfect handles, knobs, decor pieces, or even a new cake stand while the work is underway.
It makes the waiting fun and helps you create a kitchen that feels perfectly you.
